Zagreb airport has second busiest April on record as air travel bounces back strongly

Tourism is coming back to Croatia after two-years of stagnation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and evidence of this bounce back comes from the capital’s airport. In April this year Zagreb airport recorded its second busiest April, in terms of passenger numbers, on record.

A total of 255,879 passengers passed through the Croatian capital’s airport in April a massive 373 percent increase in passenger numbers when compared with the same month from last year. Of course, comparisons with last year problematic due to the pandemic, however compared with pre-pandemic 2019 the number of passengers through the airport was only 8.9 percent down.

Surely one of the main reasons for this surge in passenger numbers is the introduction of numerous flight routes from the low-cost Irish airline, Ryanair.

And just last weekend the first long-haul flight of the year landed in Zagreb when the Canadian airline Air Transat arrived directly from Toronto. From the middle of June Air Transat will fly between Zagreb and Toronto twice a week.
