Zagreb Airport Smashes January Passenger Record with 12.55 % Surge
In an impressive display of strength and resilience, Zagreb Airport has obliterated records with an unprecedented surge in January passenger numbers, sending shockwaves through the aviation industry in the post-COVID landscape. The latest figures reveal an astonishing 249,579 travelers passing through the airport gates in January 2024, catapulting well beyond even the most optimistic projections.
This astronomical achievement dwarfs previous milestones, including the all-time high set in January 2023. Last year, the airport saw a commendable 221,747 passengers, representing a remarkable 15.97% rise from January 2019. However, the most striking surge came from the 12.55 % increase in passenger traffic from 2023 to 2024, solidifying Zagreb Airport’s position as a powerhouse in the global aviation landscape.
Behind this remarkable growth lies the strategic implementation by Aeroport de Paris (ADP) to lower fees for utilizing their facilities, a move aimed at fostering a more welcoming environment for low-cost carriers such as Pegasus, Ryanair and Wizzair who have all used the opportunity to enter the airport, offering passengers a plethora of new, low-cost flight routes.
This strategic shift has not only attracted new carriers but has also contributed significantly to Zagreb Airport’s burgeoning commercial success.
As Q-park and APCOA aggressively expand their presence in airports across the European landscape, rumors about their interest in overtaking the airport’s parking facility—a facility currently boasting an impressive occupancy rate of 96%, the highest in the EU—are also rapidly gaining traction. This potential transition adds an intriguing layer to the airport’s growth story, hinting at broader changes on the horizon.
This news comes on the heels of Zagreb’s remarkable year-on-year (Y-O-Y) passenger rise of 19.2 %, further highlighting the airport’s exceptional performance in the aviation sector.
