Surge in Slovenian Travellers Boosts Demand for Parking at Zagreb Airport

Zagreb, February 16, 2024 – Following Croatia’s integration into the Schengen Area, Zagreb Airport has experienced a surge in Slovenian travellers, with approximately 550 passengers from Slovenia now using the airport daily. This influx has led to an estimated 400-500 additional cars seeking parking space each day.

In the past year, around 200,000 Slovenian travellers passed through the airport, constituting roughly 5% of total passengers. “We do not keep data on the nationality of passengers. This estimate is based on statistics of parked cars at the airport and the origin of sold air tickets,” says Zagreb Airport official.

Zagreb Airport saw a notable 19.2% increase in passengers in 2023 compared to 2022, with January 2024 recording a 12.55% increase over the previous all-time record for January 2023.

The airport is exploring measures to address the parking demand, including potential expansion projects and improved management systems, to accommodate the growing passenger numbers effectively. As Croatia’s integration into the Schengen Area continues to reshape travel patterns, Zagreb Airport remains committed to enhancing services for its vastly expanding passenger base.
